Organic Day 2025

The annual flagship event "Organic Day," organized by the Hong Kong Organic Resource Centre, will take place on March 30, 2025, at the Chater Road Pedestrian Zone in Central. The entire Chater Road will transform into a large-scale organic market and carnival venue, featuring over 100 booths from local organic farms, fisheries, and organic retailers. Attendees can explore and purchase the freshest organic produce and products in one go.

Showcasing 100+ Local Producers and Fostering Industry Collaboration

The event will include organic workshops, game booths, photo spots, and exhibitions. Star-studded guest performances will add to the festivities, making it a perfect family-friendly outing. With the government’s release of the Sustainable Development Blueprint for Fisheries and Agriculture, local agriculture is entering a critical phase of opportunity. Ensuring "farmland for farming" is a key part of promoting organic agriculture and sustainable development. Through modernization and market expansion, citizens will have more access to high-quality local organic products and can actively support the growth of local agriculture. As a major annual green event in Hong Kong, it not only allows the public to experience eco-friendly living but also provides a platform for local farmers to engage directly with the community, fostering long-term development of the organic industry.

Government’s Sustainable Development Blueprint Sparks Farmland Policy Shift

The government’s Sustainable Development Blueprint for Fisheries and Agriculture aims to quadruple local vegetable production over the next 15 years, with policy measures to stabilize farmland supply. This will boost confidence in organic farming among local farmers, aiding in the revival and sustained operation of local agriculture to meet public demand. Professor Wong Woon-chung, Director of the Hong Kong Organic Resource Centre, stated: "We welcome the government’s proposals to stabilize farmland supply. More importantly, ensuring 'farmland for farming' must be implemented swiftly so farmers can focus on cultivation and invest in long-term farm development. While balancing future Northern Metropolis development, the government should actively preserve farmland not yet designated as agricultural priority zones as reserves. Stable land policies are crucial for sustainable agricultural growth."

Expert Calls for Accelerated Farmland Leasing and Agricultural Revival Programs

Professor Wong further emphasized that the government could accelerate initiatives like the "Government Farmland Leasing Scheme" and the "Agricultural Revival Matching Program" to offer long-term opportunities for aspiring farmers and affected agricultural households. He added: "The 'Citywide Organic Day' is a platform for public interaction with local farmers. Sustainable organic agriculture relies not only on policies but also on active public participation and support. We hope this event encourages everyone to not only enjoy organic food but also deeply understand the value of local agriculture and take action to support its development."

Since its establishment 21 years ago, the Hong Kong Organic Resource Centre has actively promoted organic fisheries and agriculture, advocating for green, low-carbon living. It has successfully built a local organic certification system, with its iconic green "tick" organic label widely recognized. This label assures consumers that products are certified organic, fostering trust in purchases.

This year’s Organic Day" adopts the theme "Joy of Heaven’s Bounty: Organic Blessings, Family Farming Fun!", highlighting nature’s abundant organic gifts and encouraging families to enjoy healthy, delicious produce. The event also underscores the ecological importance of farmland, raising awareness that protecting local agriculture ensures food security and sustains natural ecosystems and urban development. Through this celebration, the public is urged to choose local organic products, support sustainable farming, and make healthy, green living a daily practice.
