The Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) of the Hong Kong government will launch the "Local Organic Watermelon Festival 2025" starting from June 20, 2025. The event will feature four specialty organic watermelon varieties and showcase a range of local organic agricultural products, aiming to promote the sustainable development of local agriculture and provide consumers with access to quality local produce.

Four Featured Organic Watermelon Varieties
This year's festival, with the participation of 40 local farmers, will promote four distinct organic watermelon varieties:
Reyan 2K: A newly introduced oval-shaped variety with a green rind and dark stripes. It is noted for its thin rind and juicy, red flesh, with a sweetness level of approximately 12 degrees Brix.
Hami Yellow Flesh: An oval-shaped variety with a dark green striped rind and orange-yellow flesh. Its sweetness level is around 10 degrees Brix.
Super Sweet Black Angel 168: A small, spherical variety with a green rind and dark stripes. It has crisp, red flesh and a sweetness level of about 12 degrees Brix.
Diana: An oval-shaped variety with a bright yellow rind featuring speckled stripes. It has red flesh and a sweetness level of approximately 11 degrees Brix.
The sweetness of general local organic watermelons ranges from 8 to 12 degrees Brix, and are priced at HK$40 to HK$50 per pound, similar to last year’s rates.

Market Events and Purchasing Channels
The first major event of the "Local Organic Watermelon Festival 2025" will take place from June 20 to 23 at Maritime Square 1 in Tsing Yi. The event will include a market for local organic produce, booth games, and workshops.
Following the launch, the AFCD will collaborate with established organic farmers' markets across the city. Starting in July, consumers can purchase local organic watermelons and other seasonal fruits and vegetables at these various locations.
Consumers can also order directly through the following channels:
"Local Fresh" Website and Mobile App: Orders can be placed via www.localfreshhk.com.
Hong Kong Organic Resource Centre (HKORC) Website: Consumers can visit www.hkorc-cert.org to find contact information for certified organic farmers and purchase directly from them.
For the specific dates and opening hours of the various farmers' markets, please refer to the supplementary information provided by the AFCD. As the supply of local organic watermelons and seasonal produce is limited, consumers are advised to make their purchases early.
