VNFruitVegMarket set for launch by end-September 2026

Ho Chi Minh City — Vietnam has unveiled plans for its first dedicated online agricultural wholesale platform aimed at strengthening trade ties between Vietnamese producers and buyers in Singapore. Announced on 3 September 2026at a green transition forum hosted by the Ministry of Industry and Trade's Agency for Innovation, Green Transition and Industry Promotion, the platform — VNFruitVegMarket (Vietnam Agri Wholesale Platform) — is expected to go live by the end of September 2026.

The initiative signals a shift in how Vietnamese agricultural exports reach Singapore, moving beyond traditional bulk import arrangements toward a more flexible, technology-enabled trading model.

Designed for Flexibility Across Buyer Segments

According to Le Ngoc Nguyen, a representative from VNFruitVegMarket, the platform will allow buyers to purchase Vietnamese agricultural products in quantities ranging from a single carton or pallet to large-scale orders, with transparent product information and pricing.

This flexibility is designed to widen market access beyond large importers to include small and medium-sized enterprises, retailers, restaurants, food and beverage businesses, and distributors — buyer segments that have traditionally faced higher barriers to sourcing directly from Vietnamese suppliers.

Technology-Driven Trading Mechanisms

The platform will incorporate several tools aimed at improving trading efficiency and reducing supply-chain risk:

  • Group-buying mechanism — combining demand from multiple buyers to optimise order volumes and reduce costs

  • Multi-dimensional auction system — enabling flexible transactions based on real-time supply, demand, volume, and timing

  • AI-driven demand and supply analysis — helping reduce risks of shortages or excess inventory

  • Transparent product data — giving buyers reliable access to specifications, pricing, and available volumes

Beyond digital transactions, VNFruitVegMarket will also connect with warehousing facilities in Singapore to support storage, consolidation, distribution, and domestic delivery — addressing logistics bottlenecks that have historically slowed Vietnamese produce exports.

Addressing Longstanding Vietnam Export Challenges

Nguyen noted that while Vietnam maintains a diverse agricultural supply base, exporters continue to face challenges around buyer connections, order volume matching, logistics, inventory management, and distribution speed in destination markets.

"A flexible trading platform capable of addressing these supply-chain bottlenecks is needed to boost export efficiency," Nguyen said.

Why Singapore, Why Now

Singapore's proximity to Vietnam offers logistical advantages for transporting fresh produce, while its strong demand for imported food products makes it a commercially attractive market. However, Nguyen emphasised that Singapore's high standards for quality, food safety, and traceability also position it as a demanding testing ground.

"Meeting Singapore's standards could provide Vietnamese agricultural products with a foundation for entering other markets," Nguyen added — framing the platform not just as a bilateral trade tool, but as a potential launchpad for broader regional export ambitions.

As Vietnam continues positioning its agricultural sector for higher-value, tech-enabled export growth, the launch of VNFruitVegMarket will be closely watched as a potential model for similar platforms across other Southeast Asian trade corridors.
